About the Forsyth Amateur Radio Club (FARC)
First, if you need to chat with a club member about ham radio or about the club, please feel
free to send us an email and a club member will be back in touch with you:
The Forsyth Amateur Radio Club (FARC) was originally incorporated as the Winston-Salem Radio Club on December 31, 1930 and has been in operation ever since. FARC is an ARRL sanctioned Special Service Club focusing on the education and training of hams and the general public in Forsyth and surrounding counties. FARC has over 300 members.
FARC is a non-profit (IRS 501(c)3) and donations are tax deductable.
FARC has a well equipped and modern ham shack for use by club members. It is recommended that members wanting to use the Elecraft K3 transceivers in the club hamshack download the users and errata manuals for the K3 (links below) and also view the following video about using the K3. Note that the video is large and make a bit of time to download. Members will also have to go over an operational checklist with key FARC members on the FARC hamshack setup. The setup is designed to make using club equipment as easy and as safely as possible.
FARC also maintains three repeaters-one with a wide service area and has significant AuxComm - ARES involvement in assisting in emergency and non-emergency events.
When possible, FARC has one or two hamfests each year. The next planned hamfest is April 24. FARC is also very active in the annual ARRL Field Day held the last weekend in June. Consult the Monthly Meeting and Special Events tab for the latest news, date and location on meetings and events.
FARC is also active in contests. Some world-class contesters are club members!!
NOTE: Due to COVID, we are holding all meetings as Zoom online meetings to protect members and visitors. We still welcome new members and need you to join the club!! At some future and safe point, normal meetings will be resumed. A listing of all club meetings held via Zoom is listed on the main club page, www.w4nc.com.
VEC Amateur Radio License test sessions are normally held at 6:30 prior to the monthly meetings except for the December meeting. However, testing is temporarily suspended due to COVID.
FARC also has many members who are world class in knowledge and skills needed by amateur radio enthusiasts who are willing to help others set up equipment, solve radio or transmission issues or answer tough questions.
